Impact Drill Vs Regular Drill

I'm thinking I'd rather go with a high quality manufacturer than just raw big power. The impact seems to run down batteries 2x faster (at least) and I don't like the lack of control that I do get with just a regular drill. Yes, the 12v will be a little slower while it drives the screws in, but its not your profession, just a DIY right?
